Good News about UA Academics, Part 6

This begins the second year of a continuing series of Good News FACTS about some of the current academic successes occuring at the Capstone!!! Expect another update in the near future. Also, (if possible) print a copy as a reminder of the great academic accomplishments happening at UA.

-The University of Alabama ranks in the top tier in the 2000 Carnegie Foundation Classification. The classification, as a Doctoral/Research (Extensive) University, places The University of Alabama in the top 3.8% of colleges and universities in the nation.

-The 2001 edition of The Princeton Review's "Best 331 Colleges in America" ranks The University of Alabama as the top university in the state in all four catagories (academics, admissions, campus life, and financials).

-Again, TIME magazine and the Princeton Review ranked The University of Alabama as the top university in the state in the 2001 edition of TIME's "The Best College for YOU".

-The 2000 Freshmen class at The University of Alabama includes 94 National Merit, Achievement and Hispanic scholars. This is a 36% increase from the 1999 Freshmen class of 68 scholars, which ranked 14th nationally among public universities in 1999. The University of Alabama continues to enroll over 300 of these scholars which is more than all other colleges and universities in the state COMBINED!!!

-Again, the 2001 edition of U.S. News and World Report has ranked The University of Alabama in the 2nd tier of National Universities. One SEC school made the first tier (1-50), Vanderbilt University. Seven SEC schools made the 2nd tier (51-120), The University of Alabama, The University of Florida, The University of South Carolina, The University of Tennessee, The University of Kentucky, Auburn University, and The University of Georgia. The undergraduate business school at UA is ranked #50 in America. The accounting program is ranked as the 21st best program in the U.S. Also, the undergraduate engineering school is ranked #95.

-The 2001 edition of Fiske's Guide to America's Best Colleges has ranked The University of Alabama as the top university in the state, based on academics.

-The 2000 edition of The Top American Research Universities, published annually by The Center, ranks the top research universities based on how many times a university is ranked in the "top 25" over 10 catagories (total research expenditures, federal research expenditures, endowment assets, annual giving, National Academy members, faculty awards, doctorates awarded, post-doc appointees, median SAT scores, and National Merit and Achievement scholars. The University of Alabama and UAB were the only universities from the state to be ranked in the "top 25" in any of the 10 catagories.

-The University of Alabama has been listed in in the latest edition of The Templeton Guide's "Colleges That Encourage Character Development". Birmingham-Southern College and Samford University were the only other colleges in the state to make the list.

-The University of Alabama AdTeam won the 2000 National Championship in the annual Advertising Federation Challenge held in Las Vegas this year. Runners-up were 2nd place, Indiana University, UCLA (3rd place), and The University of Texas (4th place).

-The University of Alabama's undergraduate business program is ranked 45th in the nation by BusinessWeek among 1500 business schools.

-The business faculty at UA ranks 7th in the nation in general finance research and publishing.

-The University of Alabama's graduate accounting program is ranked 17th nationally in the latest rankings by Public Accounting Report, the most-often cited ranking of undergraduate and graduate accounting programs.

-The 2001 edition of US News and World Report's Best Graduate Schools ranks The University of Alabama Law School's Trail Advocacy program as the 17th best in the nation.
