The donation you refer to is actually the cost I pay to rent that seat from the university for the season. In my eyes it's the total out of pocket expense I have paid without the benefit of the enjoyment of attending any of this year's games. The university must categorize it as a charitable donation due to the IRS code as it relates to not for profit institutions.
