DVD's that are rendered from video and placed onto DVD's (from VHS mainly) are burned onto a choice of 2 formats: DVD+R(RW) or DVD-R(RW). Most of the newer DVD players (even the cheap car ones) will play both + and - formats. Some players play R's but not RW's, some play R and RW +'s but not -'s. If this seems stupid it's because it is. The DVD making formats were not regulated thus accounting for the different formats. Most new players will play everything but some don't. My suggestion is to try your DVD on someone elses system and see if it works.
