Washington County HS coach Rick Tomberlin knows talent when he sees it. Among the players Tomberlin has coached at WC include Auburn's LB Takeo Spikes and Georgia's RB Robert Edwards, both among the best in the SEC. Coach Tomberlin believes the next Golden Hawk to star on the collegiate level will be Chris Horne. "He's a Ronnie Lott type," Tomberlin says. "He's a perfect strong safety. Or he could become a very fast outside linebacker. It just depends on where Alabama needs him" The coach says Chris's biggest asset is his physical style of play. "He caused more turnovers than anyone in this state because of his hitting ability," Tomberlin said. "He runs very well, but he's even a better hitter. He's a big, big-time hitter." As a senior, Chris was All-State and received All-American mention. However, because the state of Georgia had a few other big name safety prospects this year, Tomberlin feels Chris was somewhat underrated. "I've seen one of the other top safety prospects in this state play, and there's no question Chris is just as good a football player as he is," Tomberlin said. "The other kid is a great, great player, don't get me wrong. But when Chris hits somebody he's running a 4.6. When the other kid hits somebody he's running a 5.1." Enough said! As a senior, Chris racked up 104 tackles and 2 QB sacks. He had 11 career INTs. He's earned letters in football, track and baseball at WC. | |||
