Don't be surprised if Carlton's one of the first
freshmen to see action for the Tide next fall.
He has size, speed, strength, and a very good understanding of his position, according to his HS coach Phillip Lolley. "I run a 4-3 defense just like they do at Alabama. Carlton already understands the schemes very, very well," Lolley says. "You never want to put too much pressure on a kid, but I think Carlton could make an immediate impact at any of the linebacker positions next season." Lolley calls Carlton the "most intelligent" football player he's ever coached. "He was like a coach on the field for us. He called all of our defensive signals this season." Carlton is also blessed with outstanding physical ability. He has been timed at 4.5, bench presses 400 pounds, and squats close to 600 pounds. "The kid is unbelievably strong," Lolley says. "He's very fast and just a super athlete." Carlton told us that in just six games this season he recorded 97 tackles, 12 QB sacks, and 5 INTs! He had two games in which he had over 20 tackles. He said in one game he had 5 QB sacks. Injuries to teammates forced him to play WR one game this season. In that game he caught two passes for 70 yards. And he was playing on a gimpy ankle! Even though Carlton was not highly rated by many recruiting services, coach Lolley couldn't be higher on a player. "There were rumors that I was trying to get Kenny Smith [former NJ player] to go to Ole Miss so I could get a job on their staff," Lolley told us. "Heck, if was going to do something like that, the guy I'd be taking with me would be Carlton. He's that good!" |
