SUPERPREP named Joe one of the 20 best OL prospects in the country. However, Joe's HS coach, Paul McAbee, projects him as a DE. "That's probably his best position," McAbee says. "I think he'll be an excellent pass rusher."

Coach McAbee raved about Joe's athletic ability. "He's got a lot of natural speed and quickness. He's 255 pounds, but he's not bulky. He's has an athletic build, like a basketball player. His arms are long and lean. I envision Joe lining up at weakside defensive end and getting after the quarterback."

As a junior, Joe made 50 stops and 4 QB sacks. This past season, he totaled 68 tackles, 10 QB sacks, and returned an INT 40 yards for a TD.

Some people who watched Joe play this season said that he lacked aggressiveness at times. Coach McAbee says there is a good reason Joe sometimes appeared sluggish. "What most people do not know is that he played most of this season with a viral infection. The infection took seven to eight weeks to run its course. It really slowed him down. But Joe plays hard every play."

Joe has the distinction of being the first HS player to commit to Alabama in the Mike DuBose era.
