How good is Larry Paul? Good enough that he
was one of the first HS prospects Mike DuBose visited after being named
head coach at Alabama.
"Coach DuBose was named on a Monday and came here to see Larry on Tuesday," Moody coach Wes Simpson told us the day Larry committed to Alabama. During the visit, DuBose went to watch Larry play basketball. Larry had three slams in the first two minutes of the game. Larry is big, strong, quick, fast, aggressive, athletic, confident and, to top it off, a very good kid! "Larry runs like a 240 pounder shouldn't be able to run," Simpson says. "He was the fastest player on the field in every game we played." Check out these career stats: 3,110 yards rushing and 41 TDs. 472 tackles and a state record 61 sacks. This season, he rushed for 1,483 yards and 18 TDs on just 178 carries. That's an average of 8.3 per carry! Seven of his TDs were over 45 yards. Larry racked up 26 QB sacks as a sophomore DE. However, to help the team, he played ILB the past few seasons. The position switch limited his opportunities to rush the QB. "No telling how many sacks he'd of had if he'd of stayed at end," Simpson says. The best stat on Larry may be the two mothers who called Simpson to tell the coach how much they appreciated the way Larry had treated their son's who were on the freshman team at Moody. "Rarely will a coach ever get one telephone call like that," Simpson said. "I got two on Larry this season. That just shows you what kind of kid he is." How good is Larry Paul? Just ask Mike DuBose and those two mothers. They obviously think he's a great one. |
