Some people compare Shawn to current Tide OT Chris Samuels when Samuels was coming out of HS a few years ago. Shawn is an excellent athlete who has the frame to add 30 to 40 pounds and become a dominant force on either side of the ball. We think he'll start out at DE.

Shawn has excellent quickness, good speed, and very long arms. His forte on defense is stopping the run. "I love playing the run," he told us. "I can power rush or use my quickness to get to the quarterback."

John Fielding, a HS teammate of Shawn's, is very high on his fellow Tide signee. "He's impressive," Fielding says. "When I think of Shawn, I think of a big-time run-stopper. He's big and strong, but also very quick."

Last season he made 70 tackles and 7 QB sacks as a defensive end.

Shawn told us that there was never really much doubt he was going to Alabama. "I visited a few other places, but I pretty much knew I was going to Alabama. I never thought about changing my mind."
