Before the season, Nance was considered one of the state's premier prospects. But a knee injury midway through the season ended his high school career and dimmed his star. Still, Nance is an outstanding prospect.
"It's coming along great," he says of his knee. "It's almost back to full motion. I can run and lift weights without any pain. It never hurts or anything. It's starting to feel like my old leg again."
As a junior, Nance had 110 tackles and rushed for 1,101 yards. In five games this season, he had 86 tackles and 819 yards rushing.
Nance is expected to sit out next season and join the Alabama program in January 2003.
"I probably will sit until my knee is completely well," Nance says. "I want to do whatever is best for my career in the long run and I think sitting out would probably be the best thing."
