with
ADAM COX

(Go to Profile)

The following interview took place on Tuesday, October 29, 1996.

TI

Adam, which schools are you considering?

AC

Right now my list is Alabama, Tennessee, Auburn and Notre Dame.

TI

Do you have a particular favorite?

AC

Yes sir, Alabama and Tennessee are my top two.

TI

Oh really? Earlier reports had you favoring Auburn and Notre Dame. Apparently that's changed.

AC

I told people I liked Auburn and Notre Dame, but I never said they were my favorites. Actually, this is the first time I've said in an interview who my top two schools are.

TI

We appreciate the scoop! Tell us why Tennessee and Alabama are so appealing?

AC

Alabama and Tennessee are recruiting me as a tailback, which is what I like because I want to carry the ball. Auburn and Notre Dame like me as a fullback, but I don't want to end up blocking all the time. Plus, Notre Dame is so far from home.

TI

Is playing close to home important to you?

AC

Yes it is, but it's really kinda funny because until recently I really wasn't that interested in Alabama.

TI

What stirred your interest all of a sudden?

AC

Well, I visited Tuscaloosa for the Ole Miss game and really liked it. Then last weekend I was on the Tennessee sideline for the Alabama game. During the game, the Alabama band started playing "Rammer-Jammer Yellowhammer" and it was like the spirit hit me. I thought to myself, "that's my home-state school on that other sideline." Then I looked at my dad, who was standing next to me, and said, "we're on the wrong sideline, we're traitors." It was really weird.

TI

Are you close to making a decision?

AC

I haven't eliminated any of the schools on my list yet. I want to make sure that the school I pick will give me a good opportunity to make it to the NFL because that is my dream. But I do know that I'd be happy at Alabama if I never played a down.

QUICK FACTS: Adam says he's 6'1, 220, and consistently runs a 4.55. He's gained 915 yards on 160 carries and scored 14 TDs so far this season. His HS jersey number is 30.
