PRE-SIGNING INTERVIEW
|
|
|
|
Chris Reier, of Bolles HS in Jacksonville, FL, has already
committed to Alabama. He's a QB/DB in HS, but is expected to play corner
and possibly return kicks at Alabama.
The following interview took place on Tuesday, October 29, 1996. |
|
TI | It sure didn't take long for you to make a decision on where you wanted to play college football. |
CR | I've wanted to play at Alabama for a long time. There was really no sense in delaying my decision since that's the place I wanted to be. |
TI | For the record, what schools offered you a scholarship? |
CR | Besides Alabama, Florida and Iowa St. had already offered. Other schools, like Georgia, had indicated they would probably offer a little later. Florida told me that they would recruit me until signing day in case I decided to back out of my commitment to Alabama. That's fine with me, but I'm not changing my mind. |
TI | Since you are in Jacksonville, has there been any pressure on you for committing to Alabama? |
CR | Not really. One morning it was in the newspaper here about me committing and that night we had a game. Some of the other team's players were calling me "Bama Boy." It was no big deal though. [Editor’s Note: Chris had a 50 yard TD run and a 90 yard interception return for a TD that night.] |
TI | We understand that you want to play corner at Alabama. In Mike DuBose's system, a corner must be able to play man defense. How do you feel about that? |
CR | First of all, it doesn't get any better than playing defense for Alabama. Just the opportunity to do that excites me. I think my speed is good enough to play man defense [4.46]. I was watching Joey Kent [Tennessee] against Alabama last weekend and wondering how I would defend him in certain situations. I definitely believe I can do it. |
TI | Tider Insider:Someone told us you are a big George Teague fan and wanted to wear number 13 at Alabama in his honor. |
CR | Actually, David Palmer is my all-time favorite player, but DeShea isn't going to give up number 2 unless he goes pro early. Next to Palmer, I like George Teague and Antonio Langham. So if I can get number 13, that's what I'll wear. |
QUICK FACTS: Chris says he's 5'9, 175. Academics are no problem. His current stats for this season: 40 of 70 passing for 699 yards and 6 TDs. He's rushed for 300+ yards and 5 TDs. On defense, he's intercepted 2 passes, one of which he returned 90 yards for a TD. | |
