PRE-SIGNING INTERVIEW
with
JASON McADDLEY

(Go to Profile)

We have discussed "package deals" frequently this recruiting season. As we've mentioned, there are several high school teams in the south that are loaded with Division I talent. One such school is Oak Ridge, TN.

The big names at Oak Ridge are RB Shaun Bohannon and all-purpose player Mike Gipson. Tider Insider presented interviews with Bohannon and Gipson earlier in the recruiting process.

Today's interview is with another star who has emerged on the Oak Ridge team this season. WR Jason McAddley has begun receiving attention from many of the South's top programs, including the Crimson Tide. We spoke to Jason on Tuesday night, January 7.

TI Jason, you are considered the "sleeper" prospect on your high school team. Actually, that is not an insult since two of your teammates, Shaun Bohannon and Mike Gipson, are among the best players in the South.
JM Shaun and Mike are great players. They had very good junior seasons which helped them to get noticed early by the colleges. Honestly, I did not have a good junior season, mainly because we rarely threw the ball. This season, I just exploded and had a great senior year. Now a lot of schools are recruiting me.
TI Speaking of schools. Which one's are you interested in?
JM Well, I've already visited Georgia Tech. I go to Alabama this weekend. Then Tennessee on the 17th. Florida is now calling me, so I may set a visit there.
TI Do you have a favorite at this time?
JM Right now, I'd say Georgia Tech and Alabama.
TI What sets those two schools apart?
JM I can see a lot of early playing time at Georgia Tech. Plus, I really liked Atlanta on my visit. Alabama has a lot of tradition. They play in the SEC Championship game every year. I went there unofficially and really hit it off with some of the players and other students.
TI You live only 30 minutes from UT. Surely they will have something to say before you make a decision.
JM Tennessee is recruiting pretty hard, but they haven't offered me a scholarship yet. I've been told that they are planning to offer me pretty soon.
TI Will it be difficult to turn them down?
JM In some ways it would. I've got to do what’s best for me though. I will go there if I feel it's right for me. If I feel it's best to go somewhere else, I'll go somewhere else.
QUICK FACTS: Jason says he's 6'2, 180 and runs a 4.4. He is qualified academically. This season he caught 34 passes for 777 yards and 10 TDs. He wore number 80.
