PRE-SIGNING INTERVIEW
with
TONY DIXON

(Go to Profile)

Reform's Tony Dixon is one of the best DB prospects for the Tide. The following interview with Tony took place on Thursday, November 7.

TI

Tony, you've piled up some impressive numbers as a RB the past two seasons, but everyone expects you to be a safety in college. Where do you expect to play?

TD

I think I'll be a free safety. I've been a starter there since the ninth grade. I really like that position because it requires accepting a lot of responsibility. That's where I'm most comfortable.

TI

Are you a physical player or more of a finesse type?

TD

Actually I'm both. I can come up strong in run support or be a cover guy. I think I can do it all.

TI

Have you narrowed your list?

TD

I definitely plan to stay in state at either Alabama or Auburn.

TI

Are you leaning in either direction?

TD

Well, I'd just rather leave it at that right now. I plan to visit both of them. I also have a visit set to Tulane in December and one to Notre Dame in January. I may make an early decision, but the earliest it would be is the end of December.

TI

What will you be looking for in a school?

TD

At first I was looking at the coaches. This is a business though and I realize coaches come and go. So I think the main thing is to choose the school where I feel most comfortable. I've grown up an Alabama fan, but I've put that in the back of my mind so I can evaluate all the schools fairly.

TI

Have you been taking many unofficial visits?

TD

Yes sir. I've been to Alabama and Auburn a couple of times. I also went up to Tennessee for the Alabama game. All the schools I've been to have a lot to offer and are very nice places.

TI

You've gone to several summer football camps the past few years. Have you met any of the other top propects? If so, what are your impressions of them?

TD

I've met several other players at camps. Kecalf Bailey is really a great guy. I know he's blazing fast. Jason Standridge was at one camp with me. He's got a great arm. Rob Pate from Birmingham also impressed me. I bumped into Stanford Simmons at a function honoring the state's Super 12 players. That guy is bigger than I thought. I'm 6'2, 192 and he was definitely bigger than I am.

TI

You told us you wear number 24 in HS. Do you want that number in college?

TD

Laughing] I can't believe you ask that. I must admit that I've been checking rosters to see which schools will have that number open next season. I'd love to have number 24 in college.

QUICK FACTS: Tony says he's 6'2, 192 and runs a 4.46 40. He gained 1300 yards as a junior and has over 1100 yards this season. He plans a double major in Computer Science and Marketing. He carries a 3.57 GPA and scored a 20 on the ACT.
