In some ways John was in the unfortunate situation of playing in the most talented HS secondary in the south. Unfortunate because two of his cohorts in the Josey secondary, Deon Grant and Armark Tolbert, got most of the publicity. But John is confident in his ability. When we asked him to compare himself to Grant, who was everybody's All-American, John said. "He's not better than me and I'm not better than him." John said. "Deon got a lot of publicity and he deserved it. But I feel I'm a great player too. I just didn't get the publicity." Many Tide fans have wondered about John's style of play. He describes himself as a physical player. "I'm a head-hunter," he says. "I'm a very exciting player because I make big hits. I love contact." John played like a LB at strong safety. He made many bone jarring hits in run support. The past two seasons he had nearly 100 tackles and 7 INTs. John was originally thought to be leaning to Clemson before choosing the Tide. "I always wanted to go to Alabama, but they were almost out of scholarships," John said. "I just prayed and asked God to lead me to the best place for me. Then Alabama called and said they had a scholarship. I told them 'I'm coming!' I felt like the Lord led me to Alabama." | |||
