"The Big Cat" fills a big need for the Crimson Tide. Kenny is a big, burly DT with excellent quickness. He's very effective as a run-stopper and pass rusher. As a junior, Kenny had 68 tackles, 5 QB sacks, and caused 8 fumbles. This past season he made 117 tackles, 10 QB sacks, and returned a fumble for a TD. He was named Mississippi's "Defensive Player of the Year" as a senior. Meridian coach, Mac Barnes, calls Kenny "one of the best players we've ever had at Meridian." That's an impressive compliment when you consider Barnes has coached numerous players who went on to star on the collegiate level. Meridian OT Kenyatta Walker, a Florida signee, blocked Smith in practice everyday the past few seasons. "Kenny's the best I've ever gone up against, period," Walker told us. "I never faced anyone in a game that could compare to Kenny." Kenny would like to improve his strength [350 BP, 450 SQ]. As a three sport star in HS, he has been unable to devote himself in the weightroom. However, there are very few 300 pounders with Kenny's overall athletic ability. In basketball, he averaged over 16 ppg and 14 rebounds the past two seasons. Last season he hit .375 for the Meridian baseball team. The recruiting process was very difficult for Kenny. But through it all, each time we spoke with him he was cordial, composed and willing to express his thoughts. | |||
