Tatum might be the most highly rated prep player in the Tide's class this season. The Tuscaloosa News rated him the number two player in Alabama. Several national recruiting services consider him among the nation's top defensive linemen.
As a junior, en route to earning All-State honors, Tatum racked up 80 tackles, including nine sacks and 23 tackles for losses. He also returned a fumble for a touchdown.
This past season Tatum was named to The Birmingham News All-State team after making 95 tackles, 14 sacks and 25 tackles for losses.
Tatum is expected to be a defensive end at Alabama. He could also play inside at tackle.
Following the announcement of the NCAA penalties last week, Tatum's phone began ringing off the hook with calls from recruiters from opposing schools. One the schools trying the hardest to convince him to change his mind was Florida. But Tatum, a lifelong Bama fan, said that he was sticking with the Tide.
