SBR Scouting Report

Played running back in high school but has the physical attributes to be an exceptional cornerback at the collegiate level. Has excellent quickness, speed, and the hips necessary to play in man-to-man coverage. Significantly underrated prospect with enormous upside potential. Projects as a cornerback.

Stories

The Cottrell Connection

Ronnie Cottrell called Raymon Hudson tell him he was leaving Florida State for Alabama.

"He said, 'Ray, you're not mad at me are you?" Hudson recalls. "I wasn't mad, but I was a little surprised."

Cottrell had been recruiting Hudson since Hudson's sophomore year at Holmes County.

"Florida State had been my favorite while he was recruiting me," Hudson says. "But when he left, that opened my eyes up to Alabama."

Hudson visited Tuscaloosa for the first time on the weekend before national signing day.

"Before the visit, I didn't know anything about Alabama's tradition," Hudson says. "I was surprised to find out that they've won all those national championships. I was like, 'Nah, y'all are telling me a lie."

A few days later Hudson signed with the Tide.

"Coach Cottrell was the reason that I became interested in Alabama," Hudson says. "But once I visited there, I was very impressed with the place. I knew that I wanted to be a part of helping them win another championship."

He's Bad!

How good is Raymon Hudson?

"He's bad!" says Dave Peterson. He's not just a great player. He's a great, great player. He's better than Warrick Dunn in my opinion."

But Hudson's not sure that he's that bad.

"I'd sure like to believe it," he says. "Peterson might be getting a little carried away."

For his career, Hudson rushed for 4,901 yards and 54 touchdowns. But he's expected to play cornerback at Alabama. He's got excellent size and speed, and he's very physical.

"I played free safety in high school, so I'll need a little time to learn to play corner," Hudson says. "But a lot of schools, like Alabama, Florida State and Florida, said that I have the ability to take it to the next level as a cornerback."

That's bad!

That Boy Can Deliver The Paint!

Raymon Hudson scooped up the muffed punt and thought he was home free.

"My toes were on the goalline," Hudson says. "Next thing I know they're waking me up on the sideline with smelling salts."

He had just been hit by Dave Peterson.

"He hit me right in the ear hole," Hudson says. "It was like I got hit by a car. That boy can deliver the paint."

Seven Touchdowns In One Game!

Raymon Hudson had already rushed for 286 yards and six touchdowns. But he saved his biggest play of the game for defense.

Late in the fourth quarter, Freeport had driven down to Holmes County's 15.

"I was at free safety," Hudson says. "I noticed our corners were playing them soft and letting them hit short passes. So I cheated up a little."

The quarterback rolled left.

"I read his eyes the whole way," Hudson says. "I rolled with him. He threw it to the sideline. I broke on the ball and made a one-handed interception. I was about two inches inbounds."

Hudson teetered down the sideline for 93 yards and touchdown number seven.
